Answers that keep cargo moving.
Practical guidance on freight, documents, customs and special cargo.
01What is an HS Code, and why does it matter?
+
The Harmonized System code classifies products for customs. Its international core is six digits, while countries may add more digits. Correct classification helps determine duties, restrictions and required documents.
02What is a Bill of Lading (B/L)?
+
A Bill of Lading is a sea-transport document issued by the carrier. It records the shipper, consignee, cargo and routing details, acknowledges receipt of the goods and may serve as a document of title depending on its form.
03How is chargeable weight calculated?
+
For air freight, the carrier generally compares actual weight with volumetric weight and charges the higher value. The conversion factor varies by carrier and service, so confirm it before booking.
04How long will my shipment take?
+
Transit time depends on origin, destination, transport mode, route, customs clearance and seasonal conditions. The quoted schedule is an estimate until the carrier confirms the booking.
05Can I track my shipment?
+
Yes. Tracking availability depends on the carrier and transport mode. Use the booking, AWB or Bill of Lading reference supplied with your shipment, or contact our team for a status update.
06What should I prepare to import goods into Dubai?
+
Typical requirements include a commercial invoice, packing list, transport document, certificate of origin when applicable, and the importer’s customs registration details. Product-specific permits may also be required. Final requirements are determined by UAE authorities and the nature of the goods.
07What documents are required for a personal export from the UAE?
+
Requirements commonly include sender and receiver identification, packing details, a value declaration or invoice, and the transport document. Destination-country rules and restricted-item controls may add further requirements.
08What documents are required for a commercial export?
+
Commercial exports usually require a commercial invoice, packing list, transport document and certificate of origin when requested. Licences or approvals may apply to controlled products.
09Who handles customs clearance and duties?
+
Responsibility depends on the agreed service and Incoterm. GCC Cargo can arrange clearance when included in the quotation. Duties, taxes, inspections and government fees are normally charged separately unless expressly stated.
10What documents are needed to ship a vehicle?
+
Requirements depend on origin, destination and whether the movement is temporary or permanent. Common documents include ownership or export papers, identification, vehicle details and customs documents. UAE procedures may also require relevant RTA or traffic approvals.
11Can personal belongings remain inside the vehicle?
+
Many carriers and destinations restrict or prohibit personal items inside vehicles. Items may be removed during inspection and may not be insured. Confirm the carrier and destination rules before delivery.
12Can you ship dangerous goods?
+
Dangerous goods may be accepted only after classification, documentation, packaging and carrier approval under the applicable transport regulations. Share the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before requesting a quotation.
13How should high-value cargo such as gold be arranged?
+
High-value cargo requires advance compliance checks, declared value, secure handling, suitable insurance and confirmation that the carrier and destination accept the commodity. Do not send valuables before written acceptance.
14What items are prohibited or restricted?
+
Rules vary by carrier, mode and country. Weapons, illegal substances, some batteries, chemicals, medicines, food, plants and valuables may be prohibited or require permits. Provide a complete cargo description before booking.
15Do you offer door-to-door shipping?
+
Yes, subject to route and cargo eligibility. A door-to-door quotation should state collection, main transport, customs responsibilities and final delivery so you can see exactly what is included.
16Is cargo insurance included?
+
Insurance is not automatically included unless shown in the quotation. We recommend appropriate cover based on the cargo value, route and risk. Review the policy limits and exclusions before shipment.
17What should I do if cargo is damaged or missing?
+
Notify GCC Cargo immediately, keep the packaging and goods unchanged, take clear photos, and provide the transport document, invoice and delivery receipt. Claim deadlines are often short and vary by carrier and policy.
18Why can a shipment be delayed?
+
Weather, port congestion, customs inspections, documentation issues, capacity changes and route disruptions can affect schedules. We communicate confirmed updates and available alternatives when delays occur.
Requirements vary by commodity, carrier and destination.
