Shipping basics
What is an HS code, and why does it matter?
The Harmonized System is the international goods classification developed by the World Customs Organization. Its six-digit core is used internationally; countries may add further digits. Accurate classification helps determine customs duties and applicable requirements. Share a clear product description, composition and intended use when requesting classification support.
What is a Bill of Lading (B/L)?
A Bill of Lading records the cargo received for sea transport and the shipment details. It identifies the relevant parties and provides evidence of the carriage arrangement. The document type and release instructions determine how it is used at destination. Check all details before issuance.
Can GCC Cargo help with packaging materials?
Packaging materials are available from specialist suppliers. GCC Cargo can assist with sourcing suitable materials and arranging delivery. Share the cargo type, dimensions and handling needs so the packaging options can be reviewed.
Import & export documents
What should I prepare to import goods into Dubai?
Common starting documents include the commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin. Transport documents, a delivery order and importer details may also be required. Restricted or regulated goods can require additional approvals. The final checklist depends on the goods, customs procedure and shipment route; confirm it before dispatch.
What documents are needed for personal shipments from the UAE?
Prepare the sender’s and recipient’s identification details, complete addresses and contact numbers, and an itemised packing list. A declared-value statement or pro forma invoice may be requested. Additional documents depend on the destination and the nature of the goods.
What documents are needed for commercial exports from the UAE?
Prepare a commercial invoice and packing list, together with a certificate of origin where required. Transport documents, customs declarations, permits or a clearance authorisation may also apply. Confirm the requirements for the product, destination and transport mode before booking.
Vehicle shipping
What documents are needed to import a car?
The initial file usually includes proof of ownership or purchase, the vehicle’s registration or export documents, the shipping document and the importer’s identification. Destination rules may require additional approvals or conformity checks. Send the vehicle details and destination for a shipment-specific checklist.
How do temporary and permanent vehicle exports differ?
The paperwork depends on whether the vehicle will return to the UAE. Prepare the ownership documents and owner identification, then confirm the appropriate RTA procedure: export documentation for permanent export, or the relevant tourism documentation for temporary travel where applicable. Destination entry rules and any finance-related approvals must also be checked.
Special cargo
How should I arrange a gold shipment from Dubai?
Request a specialist assessment before booking. Provide the product description, declared value, proof of ownership or purchase, origin and destination. Acceptance, required approvals, customs documentation, security arrangements and insurance must be confirmed for the specific shipment. Do not dispatch the goods until the arrangements are agreed.
